Women’s Soccer: Washington and Lee 5, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Washington and Lee , the sixth-ranked team in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire Division III South Atlantic Region Poll ran its unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 5-0 win over Guilford in women’s soccer Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Wednesday afternoon at the Armfield Athletic Center.

The Generals (12-1-1, 8-0 ODAC)controlled the action but had trouble getting off good shots in the first half. Holley Beasley opened the scoring at the 16-minute mark and nine minutes later Haley Ward scored on a penalty kick that Quakers goalie Abby Gove got a hand on but could not keep from entering the net.

Washington and Lee added three goals after intermission with Tricia Jesse scoring twice and Meaghan Latella adding a header off a corner kick for the game’s final score.

Gove made 13 saves for Guilford (1-15, 1-8 ODAC).

The Quakers return to action Sunday with a road game versus ODAC foe Emory & Henry at 3:00 pm.
