James Summers (Greensboro, N.C.) accounted for 433 yards of offense and four touchdowns on the night, as the freshman quarterback was 15-31 for 311 yards, three touchdowns and one interception through the air and carried the ball 28 times for 122 yards and one touchdown.

Hinds had to overcome an early 7-0 deficit when Holmes running back Fred Franklin scampered in from 22 yards out to put the Bulldogs ahead with 12:33 in the second quarter after the Cole Ballard point after was good.

Summers would tie the game at seven with 5:01 left before half when he rushed in from 13 yards out. Joseph Houston (Pelahatchie) knocked the PAT through the uprights to knot things up.

Both defenses held for the remainder of the first half and the score stayed tied up at seven heading into the break.

Summers wasted no time in putting Hinds back ahead when he connected with wide receiver Keithon Redding (Atlanta, Ga.) on a 40-yard touchdown strike. The Houston point after attempt was no good, however, and Hinds held a 13-7 lead with 12:57 left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs of Holmes would even the score at 13 with 5:22 left in the third quarter when Jammie Jamison blocked a Pate DeMuth (Raymond) kick and carried it in from five yards out for the score. The Ballard point after try was no good and the score stayed tied.

Hinds would go ahead for good with 8:21 remaining in the final quarter when Summers hit Robert Lockhart (Delray Beach, Fla.) across the back of the end zone for a four-yard touchdown pass. The Houston PAT was good this time and Hinds led, 20-13.

The Eagles put the nail in the coffin on the following possession when Summers hooked up with LaChristopher Lee (Cleveland) on a 97-yard passing play for the touchdown with 5:25 left in the contest.

  1. WHATS THE DEAL WITH SUMMERS. HE SIGNED WITH CAROLINA OUT OF PAGE, AND NOW HE’S PLAYING JR. COLLEGE.

  2. well i guess you dont see him in a carolina uniform so your question was kind of out there? he is at a jr college getting the things he need to prepare himself . he now knows what he needs to do. he is playing college football he is doing well and you will see him suit up for someone in the near future,just glad he getting his grades and playing football.he is getting hisself in order to do what needs to be done to be successful. we should all commend him. he is a great kid a great talent and he is getting it done. let me remind you cam newton went to school here so these coaches know what they have and what to do with this young man.lets support him so guilford county can bragg some more on how well our kids are doing at the next level.

  3. James did not qualify at North Carolina and then he went to prep school at Hargrave Military Academy last year and now he is working to finalize his classwork at Hinds Community College in Mississippi….Hinds is a very good JUCO and well thought of on the football circuit….

    Hopefully James will be ready to make the move to a DI school this coming January or at least by next August…

    I THINK ALOT OF THESE KIDS WOULD BE BETTER OFF
    ATTENDING A JUCO. ESPECIALLY SOME QB’S WHO HAVE
    TO PLAY IN AN OFFENCE THAT REALLY DOESN’T LET THEM
    USE THE TALENT THEY HAVE.

  7. Will Summers be playing QB at the D1 Level? If not, what position will he play??

    11 TD’S Running the ball, maybe a RB at D1.

  8. Everyone, even his rivals should be happy for James. He is getting his academics together. Sports ability was never an issue. Hopefully he moves on and gets am4 years degree.

  9. James Summers might just end up a flat-out running quarterback at a DI school….

    I remember about hearing about this QB from last weekend and went back and looked him up and who knows, maybe James could end up being like this young man from Northern Illinois, Dave Doeren’s old team…..NIU currently (7-0)….

    DEKALB, Ill. -Northern Illinois University senior quarterback Jordan Lynch has been named the Mid-American Conference West Offensive Player of the Week the league announced Monday.

    Lynch, who earned Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week honors, rushed for 316 yards in NIU’s 38-17 victory over Central Michigan Saturday to break the NCAA single game record for most rushing yards by a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) quarterback. His 316 yards are the most by any FBS player this season. It is the fourth MAC Player of the Week honor for Lynch this season.

    Versus CMU, Lynch carried the ball 32 times for 316 yards, fourth-most in school history, to average 9.9 yards per rush, and scored three rushing touchdowns as the Huskies won their seventh straight game without a loss this season. He gained 232 yards on 18 carries in the second half with three runs of 40 or more yards in the half. The Mt. Carmel High School product also completed 20-of-30 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown to account for 471 yards of total offense, the fourth-highest total in school history.

It would seem like after four years of high school QB and now one year of Prep School(Hargrave) and a year of JUCO(Hinds CC) that James would be a fixture at QB for the future, but he is again, more of a QB/RB in reality and who knows, another move may be in the works down the road, but I hope if it happens, that it happens while he is still in college, so he would have ample time to get adjusted to his new spot before he would hit the NFL….

    But with James and his athletic approach, he may be able to keep playing QB while in college and then hit the ground running at a another position in the pros….

    He needs to be doing something up there one day, if not, a lot of talent would be going to waste…

    Still real curious where he will end up next for the Fall of 2014…..

  12. All I can say is what an incredible athlete! Hope to see him at the next and the next next level some day. Page’s run to the state championship could not have happened without him. Glad to hear he is doing well.

  13. What never seems to get the proper level of time on this site is the fact that this kid was able to graduate from Page after 4 years and not qualify to enter Carolina from a NCAA stand point. The NCAA standards are far below the general requirements of a Carolina or other local schools. The Guilford county public school standards for playing are far too low and it is a black eye on our community that these situations continue to happen in the background of all of us cheering. We may be cheering these kids on today but their future has few bright spots when they were not force to learn the basic elements of reading, writing and math. Our system should be better than allow kids to failure for our enjoyment. Page should be better than to allow such situations.
