Greensboro College Pride Volleyball Victorious Over Ferrum 3-2 on Senior Night

GREENSBORO, NC – The Pride volleyball team defeated Ferrum College in five sets on Wednesday night. Greensboro honored their lone senior, Megan Smith prior to the match.

Greensboro jumped out to the quick 3-0 lead in the first set. Both sides traded points until, The Pride used a six point run to lead taking a 14-9 lead. Ferrum tried to rally down the stretch with three separate runs, however Greensboro held on for the 25-21 first match win.

In the second game, The Pride used an 8 point run for the early 14-4 lead. Greensboro went on a late four point push en route to a 25-10 second match win.

Ferrum came out fast for the early 5-0 lead in the third game. The Pride slow to respond but was able to tie up the match at 20-20. Ferrum stayed strong, winning the third set 25-21. The Panthers went on to win the fourth set 25-17, setting up the decesive fifth set.

In the fifth set, Ferrum used four straight points for an early 4-0 lead. The Pride used a momentum swing, led by Holly Anders with two service aces getting back within 9-8. Greensboro seized control from there, en route to a 15-13 victory.

Liz Widenhosue led the way with 17 kills, and Dallas Hasty contributed 11 kills and 11 digs. Smith had seven kills, and one assisted block. Carissa McCumber had a match high 16 digs. Cortland Phillips passed for a game high 43 assists.

Greensboro with the win moves to 9-16, 5-8 USA South. The Pride hits the court again on Saturday in a tri matchup at LaGrange. The first matchup is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. against Huntingdon, and the second match against LaGrange at 4:00 p.m.
