HPU’s David Long posts top-ten finish at Bridgestone Collegiate Men’s Golf Tourney

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team shot a combined 303 on Sunday in the final round of the Bridgestone Collegiate at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. The Panthers finished 14th in the tournament with a total score of 612.

“This was a tough weekend for us,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “Overall, I expected a better finish from our team. But David Long was a bright spot us. He made some great shots and finished the tournament strong. We continue to struggle with our consistency as a young team. Now it is time to get back to work and prepare for the spring season.”

Freshman David Long tied for 9th with a score of 144 after shooting a two-under 70 on Sunday. It was Long’s third round under par and his second top-ten finish of the fall season. Freshman Phil Oweida continued his consistent play with two-straight rounds of 76 to card a 152. Oweida finished tied for 59th.

Sophomore McKay Tye took three strokes off his opening round score of 79 to card a 76 on Sunday and finish tied for 68th with a total score of 155. Freshman Jack Sides shot a 161 (80-81) and junior LJ Georgetti carded a 168 (86-82).

North Carolina won the event with a team score of 571 (288-283) and Tarheel Henry Do tied for the individual win with Lars van Meijel of Memphis with scores of 571.

This is the final tournament of the fall for the HPU men’s golf team. The Panthers will be back in action on Feb. 16 at the Wexford Plantation in Hilton Head, S.C.
