Greensboro College Men’s Golf Picks Up First Tournament Victory Since 2011-12 Season

GREENSBORO, NC — The Greensboro College Pride men’s golf team picked up an 11 stroke victory to close out the fall portion of their 2013-2014 season at The O’Briant-Jensen Memorial Golf Tournamnet that concluded on Tueseday afternoon.

The Pride entered the final day with a two stroke lead over the 17 team field after Monday’s first round of competition.

On the final day John Grimes carded the low score of the day for Greensboro with a +4 (74) on the par 70 Sedgefield Dye Course. With the 74 on the day Grimes would finish at +5 (145) for the tournament to place him in fourth place indvigually in the 96 player field.

Gregory Pappas also had a strong event for The Pride Carding a +8 (73-75=148) to also place in the top ten in seventh place.

Also carding scores for Greensboro was Chris Cox and Nick Peoples who both shot +12 (152) to place 18th overall, while Brian Critzer rounded out the scoring for Greensboro with a +19 (159).

Following the tournament win, Head Coach Dirk Fenne had this to say about his teams performace. “I am very pleased with this group of players. They are supportive of each-other and have been through a lot together over the past 1 1/2 years and a few of them have been together for 3 1/2 years It is a great way finish out the fall season and gear up towards the spring. It is not easy to win golf tournaments. It has been 18 1/2 months since our last win, it feels good to be on top again”

With The Pride’s victory, it marks Greensboro’s first tournament victory since the 2011-2012 USA South Conference Championship Tournament.

Greensboro will now go into the winter break recording three top five team finishes out of the five tournaments they played in this fall.

The Pride will return to action, for the first event of the spring at The Bash at the Beach on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
