If you want to win football games, don’t’ play Florida State. They continue to destroy every team in their path, their most recent victim being the nation’s then ranked seventh Miami Hurricanes, who they beat 41-14. Clemson stayed in the win column when they eviscerated Virginia 59-10 while North Carolina ruined NC. State’s homecoming with a 27-19 win.

Florida State-41 Miami-14
It was tied 7-7 after the first quarter and FSU lead 21-14 at the half in what seemed like what might have been the first time FSU was challenged all season. Jameis Winston tossed a pair of touchdowns, after just throwing four all season, They ran away with the game in the third quarter after a scuffle between the in-state rivals when the Seminoles put 14 and blanked the Hurricanes before adding six more points in the fourth quarter.

Perhaps Winston’s least impressive game this year, the freshmen QB still tallied 325 yards and one touchdown to a pair of interceptions and completed 21 of 29 passes. The FSU run game compensated a rather mild passing day by rushing for four touchdowns.

Their defense also had a phenomenal second half, not allowing any points and only 275 yards all game. More impressively they held standout RB Duke Johnson to under 100 yards (he had 97) and didn’t allow him to score all game. FSU probably isn’t going to lose again.

North Carolina-27 N.C State-19
Homecoming started well for the Wolf Pack, as they jumped ahead 10-0. But QB Brandon Mitchell’s six-yard touchdown run would be the only time State found in the end zone all game. Mitchell, however, became the first N.C State QB rush for 100 yards in 37 years when he put up 105, but had a ghastly passing day, completing just 10 of 22 passes and throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns.

UNC was far more efficient with the football. Bryn Renner wasn’t sharp either, amassing just 124 yards and an interception and no touchdowns. Backup QB’s Marquise Williams threw for 92 yards and a touchdown and freshmen WR threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Quinshad Davis.

The Wolf Pack is now 0-5 in the ACC in what has been a nightmarish season. They next play the 6-2 Duke Blue Devils, who are no longer, the token win they once were. The Heels have, at least for the moment, salvaged what started off as a really bad year, and are now 2-3 in the conference and 3-5 overall. They play Virginia next week, who is really bad.

A Few Other Games
Clemson pounded Virginia 59-10, and if not for a costly defeat at the hands of FSU, the Tigers would be a Top-5 team in contention for a BCS title game. Tajh Boyd threw for 377 yards and four touchdowns and is now the ACC’s all-time leader in touchdown production.

Virginia Tech was handed their second consecutive loss when Boston College downed them 34-27. The Eagles used a 17-0 fourth quarter to pull off the upset. Georgia Tech predictably beat Pittsburgh 21-10 while Syracuse shut out Wake Forest by a score of 13-0.
