High Point Women’s Volleyball Falls On The Road To Radford

RADFORD, VA – The High Point University volleyball team was swept by Radford on the road Saturday afternoon. Junior Chelsea Davis led the Panthers with 11 kills in the 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 19-25) loss.

“Radford was special today and it served as a great eye opener as to what we need to improve on moving forward,” said head coach Jason Oliver. “All of us look forward to getting back to work in practice on Monday.”

Davis led the team with 11 kills and a .219 attack percentage. She also had nine digs and three service aces. Sophomore Annemarie Chin had a team-high 15 digs and senior Maddis Simpson had 18 assists and two blocks.

Rachel Wiechecki posted 20 kills and eight digs to lead the Highlanders. Kelby Jackson had a team-high 12 digs and Jena Braden dished out 39 assists.

High Point drops to 13-14 on the season and 7-5 in Big South action. Radford improved to 20-9 overall and 9-3 against league opponents. Radford outhit High Point .273 to .074 in the match.

The Highlanders captured an early lead with a 25-17 win in the first set. The Panthers were down by three late in the set, 20-17, before Radford finished the frame with a 5-0 run. Emma Deininger and Cheyanne James had two kills each in the final points.

High Point lost both of the final two sets 25-19, struggling to get in to an offensive rhythm. Radford opened set two with a 6-1 run and maintained the lead for the entire set. High Point took the early lead in set three, 3-0, but Radford took the lead back 8-7 on a kill by Jesse Miedema. The set was tied three more times before RU took the lead for the final time, 11-10.

High Point concludes the regular season with home games against Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. HPU will take on CSU on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Millis Center.
