College Volleyball News – Guilford’s Freeman Lands Third Team All-ODAC Honors

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College senior Brittany Freeman (Hendersonville, N.C./North Henderson) was named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Third Team Volleyball squad Tuesday according to a vote of the league’s head coaches. A second-team pick in 2010, Freeman becomes the fourth Quaker to earn All-ODAC volleyball honors twice and the first since 2002.

Freeman, a 5-11 outside hitter, led the Quakers with 3.19 kills per set, which ranks third in the ODAC. Her team-best 287 kills stand seventh in the league. Freeman’s .220 hitting percentage and 175 digs were third and fourth on the team, respectively. She tallied three double-doubles and recorded double-digit kills in 15 of the team’s 27 games. One of Freeman’s best matches came against Greensboro College Sept. 7, when she put away a career-high 22 kills in Guilford’s five-set victory. She hit .462 with 12 kills in the Quakers’ Oct. 30 win over Greensboro.

In three seasons, Freeman posted 846 kills and averaged 2.98 kills per set, both of which rank sixth in school history. She tallied 94 service aces and earned 983 points for the Quakers. Her 0.33 service aces per set average stands 11th in Guilford history. Freeman also recorded 630 digs and her .896 career reception percentage ranks fifth in school history. She garnered 13 solo blocks and 60 block assists during her career. Freeman will graduate in December with a double major in political science and history.

Coach Emily Gann’s Quakers finished the season with a 13-14 overall record, 4-7 ODAC. Gann expects as many as 11 letter winners back in the fall of 2014.
