College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 81, York (NY) 26

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s basketball team allowed its fewest points in a game since 2009 in Saturday night’s 81-26 season-opening win over York (N.Y.) College. The 26 points allowed are third-fewest in school history and match the 26 scored by Hollins University in a Feb. 3, 2009 game.

The victory came in the second contest of Guilford’s Marriott Invitational, which opened Saturday with Roanoke College’s 83-68 win over Alma College.
All but two of Guilford’s available students scored in the Quakers’ (1-0) victory, including senior Morgan King, who tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, both game highs. Junior transfer Sarah Burnick added 10 points in her Guilford debut and junior Logan Hardin scored nine off the bench for Guilford. Jennette Taylor and Brittany Drew both made five steals as the Quakers had 19 takeaways in the game.

After taking a 42-17 halftime lead, Guilford held the Cardinals (0-1) to two second-half field goals, one in the half’s opening minute and one in the closing minute. York shot two-of-21 from the floor in the period and 20 percent for the game. Danielle Dunn paced the Queens-based team with 11 points.
Guilford wraps up play in the Marriott Invitational Sunday versus Alma (0-1), which dropped its season opener to Roanoke earlier in the day. Tatum McKee totaled 24 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Maroons (1-0). Roanoke broke open a 37-37 game at halftime with a 21-7 run over the first 4:30 of the second half. Paxton Gwin added 14 points for Roanoke. Alma’s Erica Hansen paced the Scots (0-1) with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Roanoke plays York at 1:00 p.m. Sunday in Guilford’s Ragan-Brown Field House, which will be followed by the Guilford-Alma matchup at 3:00 p.m.
