SALISBURY, MD – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team lost to #15 Salisbury 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday morning.
The Seagulls got on the board at 23:32 when Stephen Boorman found the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. Salisbury extended the lead four minutes later on a free kick making it 2-0. The final goal of the half came from the Seagulls to take a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Salisbury extended the margin to 4-0, finding the back of the net two minutes into the second half. The score remained the same throughout the half with The Pride falling 4-0.
Shaun Watt and Earl Floyd led the way with two shots, with one coming on frame apiece. The Pride were outshot 11-9 on the day. Greensboro held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks. Manbi Nyepon got the start in goal.
“This was a tough day for our group. Salisbury is a quality opponent and I felt that they capitalized on our inexperience early. Once we settled in, I thought we showed some quality and I am proud of our group for battling all 90 minutes. While today did not end the way we would have hoped, it has been a tremendous season and I am confident today’s result will motivate the group going into the off-season,” said coach Trice after the game.
The Pride conclude their 2013 season as USA South Champions and a record of 13-6-2 overall and 6-3 in the USA South.
