Former Greensboro Bat and Greensboro Grasshopper Jason Vargas gets 4-year deal worth 32 million dollars

Jason Vargas will be making 8 million dollars a year beginning in 2014, as the former Greensboro Bat and Greensboro Grasshopper has signed a 4-year deal with the Kansas City Royals valued at 32 million dollars….

Not a bad deal at all to be making 8 million dollars a year and all for a kid that was with Greensboro at the old War Memorial Stadium, at the end of the 2004 season and then back with Greensboro again briefly, in 2005 at the start of the season and pitched the first game in First Horizon Park….Vargas was (2-1) with the Bats in 2004 and then he went (4-1) for the Grasshoppers early in 2005…..He moved up pretty quick in 2005….

Vargas now making 8 million a year and I can still see his dad roaming around the old War Memorial Stadium back in 2004 making sure all was well for his young son, during his stay with the Bats, in Greensboro, N.C.

Here is the story on the Jason Vargas trade deal and it is still hard to believe that the kid we saw throwing baseballs in Greensboro, is now throwing baseballs for 8 million dollars a year…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. from www.news-record.com by way of the Associated Press–The Kansas City Royals agreed to a $32 million, four-year contract with left-hander Jason Vargas on Thursday, trying to fill the void in their rotation created by Ervin Santana’s free agency.

Vargas was 9-8 with a 4.02 ERA in 24 starts for the Angels last season. He was 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA before going on the disabled list with a blood clot in his arm that required surgery.

Kansas City was searching for a veteran to replace Santana, another former Angels pitcher who rediscovered himself in Kansas City. Santana went 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA last season, driving up his price in free agency to the point where the Royals are unlikely to sign him.
