Northern Middle School Boys Basketball Report

from Coach Jerry Eaves, former men’s basketball coach at North Carolina A&T State University…..

Coach Mike Davis’ Northern Middle School Basketball team probably won’t have the balanced scoring that last year’s team had since they lost the top 6 scorers, but I think they are a much deeper team and could have the possibility of rotating as many as 9 or 10 players throughout the game. They are also not as skilled as last year, but are much more athletic and quick. They should be much better on the boards and on the defensive end and hopefully will be able to get into their offense by playing good defense.

Players to Watch:
Kellen Hodge — 8th grade 2 guard has grown taller and stronger since his 7th grade year, and should fill out much more in the years to come. Uses ball and shot fakes really well and has a nice mid-range game. Average ball-handling skills at the present, but has a great work ethic that will allow him to overcome many of his weaknesses.
Michael Wynan — 7th grade 2/3 player that has good size and quickness. Can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket with ease and has the making of a real nice mid-range game. If he continues to work on his shooting form this year which should enable him to only get better and extend his range.
Dakari Mitchell — 8th grade point guard that has a giant heart and isn’t afraid to mix it up with anyone on the court. Handles the ball well and has a very high basketball IQ. Decent mid-range game that will only improve as he gets bigger and stronger.
