Elon Men’s Basketball Hosts Metro State and Georgia State Monday and Tuesdsay

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s basketball team returns to Alumni Gym for a pair of games on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 25-26, this week. The Phoenix takes on the Metro State Roadrunners on Monday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Georgia State Panthers on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Listen to both games live on WPCM 95.1 FM/920 AM and watch both games live on Phoenix All-Access. In addition to Elon’s games, the Canisius Golden Griffins will compete both nights at 5 p.m. versus GSU and MSU.

Elon season ticket holders can purchase tickets for $10 per session. Non-Elon season ticket holders can purchase tickets for $15 per session. Elon students receive free admission with their Phoenix Card. Purchase tickets online or call the Elon Ticket Office at 336.278.6750.

ELON VS. METRO STATE: Monday night will mark the first meeting between Elon and Metro State. Metro State, located in Denver, Colo., comes into the game ranked as the No.1 ranked Division II team in the nation.

ELON VS. GEORGIA STATE: Tuesday night marks the third ever meeting between the Phoenix and Panthers. Both squads have earned one win in the previous two games. The last meeting between the two schools was Nov. 17, 2007, at Elon, as the Phoenix came away with a 71-49 victory. Elon and GSU also met on Feb. 17, 2007, in Atlanta, as the Panthers came away with a 63-53 win.

LOOKING BACK: Canisius’ Billy Baron hit a game-winning three as time expired on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the NIT Season Tip-Off at Rutgers to down the Phoenix 86-85, in heartbreaking fashion. Elon led by eight points with 2:43 remaining, but the Griffs closed the game on a 9-0 run and capitalized on several Elon turnovers down the stretch to win the game. Luke Eddy scored a career-high 23 points in the win, while Lucas Troutman added 23 as well.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following the conclusion of the NIT Season Tip-Off on Tuesday, the Phoenix remains at home for a pair of non-conference games versus Columbia (Dec.1) and VMI (Dec. 3).

HEAD COACH MATT MATHENY: Matt Matheny is in his fifth season as the Elon head men’s basketball coach. The 2013 Southern Conference Coach of the Year by the media, Matheny enters Monday’s game with an overall record of 61-71. Matheny was a finalist for CollegeInsider.com’s Hugh Durham Award last season, which honors the nation’s top mid-major coach.
