Greensboro College Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Mid Atlantic Christian 106-30

ELIZABETH CITY, NC—The Greensboro College Pride women’s basketball team defeated the Mustangs of Mid Atlantic Christian on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 106-30.

In the first half of play, The Pride took control of the game early on with a 16-0 run over a five minute span to push their lead out big at 20-2 with 14 minutes remaining in the half. Chevena Pickard led the way for The Pride during the run scoring seven of her 22 points in the game. The Pride continued to extend out their lead for the rest of the half, holding the Mustangs to two of 19 shooting in the half, while forcing 20 Mid Atlantic Christian turnovers. Greensboro went into the half leading the game 60-12.

After the break, Syerra Toutman scored the first three points of the half that kept The Pride momentum going that they sustained the first half. Later in the half, Brandy Rush led the team on a 10-0 run, scoring all ten points making the score 83-14. With The Pride leading big at the end of the game, The Mustangs hit back to back three pointers closing out the game, falling 106-30.

Greensboro had twelve players find the books in the game, with four players scoring in double figures. Pickard led the way with 22 points. Also scoring in double figures on the afternoon were Brandy Rush with 20 points, Shanita Hampton had 12 points, and Syerra Troutman with 11 points. The Pride held a 65-34 advantage on rebounds in the game, with 31 of those coming on the offensive end of the floor. Joslyn Spires and Pickard led the way with a game high five assists apiece. Greensboro forced Mid Atlantic Christian to 40 turnovers on the day while only making 12 of their own.

“The whole team played very hard, and stayed focus throughout the game despite the score. I am proud of the way everyone contributed during the game,” said head coach Randy Tuggle.

With the win, Greensboro moves to 2-0 on the young season. The Pride women’s basketball team will return to action on December 4th at 5:00 pm, when these same two teams matchup on Mayo C.
