“2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Tourney Town Classic -TO BENEFIT AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

“The 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer® Tourney Town Classic” night will be TODAY in Fleming Gymnasium at UNCG in Greensboro, to benefit the American Cancer Society®, the official sponsor of more birthdays. The activities surrounding these games will raise funds to help support the Society’s efforts to help people in the Triad get well, stay well, find cures and fight back.

This year’s event will have six games from 10am to 8pm: 10:00am Webb vs. McMichael; 12:00pm Garinger vs. Grimsley; 2:00pm Reagan vs. Western Guilford; 4:00pm Winston Salem Prep vs. Dudley; 6:00pm Clinton vs. Smith; 8:00pm Leesville vs. Page.

Throughout the day, there will be various activities (auctions, raffles, games, contest) aimed to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

There will be cancer survivors recognized throughout the event. There will also be local celebrities in attendance to help with this cause.

The teams and student athletes participating have rallied around the Coaches vs. Cancer event because some member of their family, school or community has or had cancer and will be recognized during their game.

“I am honored to be the coach of a participating school in this event. Our student athletes have the opportunity to learn through service and support the American Cancer Society.” – James Abell, Head Coach Page High School

“Having the opportunity for our student athletes, as a team, to support a cause such as Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society is a blessing that we can’t pass up.” – Brian Seagraves, Head Coach Dudley High School

“As the coach of the host school for this event, I am amazed and thankful that all of the other coaches involved were willing to participate. We all compete against each other, but it is nice to know that we can come together to support a worthy cause.” – Derrick Partee, Head Coach Smith High School

In addition to raising lifesaving funds in support of the American Cancer Society’s mission to finish the fight against cancer, The Tourney Town Classic and its participating teams and players are learning how to make healthy decisions each and every day that can reduce their risk of cancer. Eating right, exercising, staying safe in the sun and following the American Cancer Society’s recommended cancer screening guidelines are all ways people can reduce their cancer risk.

Together with millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping people get well and stay well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. For 24-hour cancer information, call toll free 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
