Stacia Robertson Posts Double-Double In HPU Women’s Basketball Loss To Furman

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team lost to Furman, 76-67, on Tuesday at the Millis Center. Furman outscored HPU 18-9 in the final three and a half minutes of the game for the win. Redshirt-junior Stacia Robertson posted a double-double for the Panthers.

“We didn’t communicate or defend in the last four minutes,” said head coach DeUnna Hendrix. “It is disappointing because I know we are a good basketball team but we are struggling to play at a consistent level. All we can do is put it behind us and start preparing for Longwood on Friday.”

Brigid Morrissey tied the game, 58-58, on a three-pointer with 5:21 left to play in the game. The shot swung momentum in Furmans favor as the Paladins would drain two more shots from behind the arc as part of an 18-9 run to end the game.

Robertson scored 10 points with 12 rebounds and three blocks for her second double-double of the season. Senior Tayler Tremblay scored a team-high 18 points and freshman Kaylah Keys added 16 points.

Erica Norwood led Furman with 22 points off the bench while Sarah Durdaller and Holli Wilkins each scored 11 points.

Furman took a quick 8-0 lead in the game as High Point missed its first five shots of the contest. With great passing Puckett found Keys for an open three to end the drought with 15:52 on the clock. Keys tied the game 8-8 when she was fouled while scoring on a layup. She drained the free throw to complete the three-point play and tie the game.

The Paladins pushed their lead back to six (25-19) with five minutes left in the half on a three-point play from Janice Roberts. Robertson scored the next six points for the Panthers on three straight layups to once again tie the game, 25-25 with 3:03 left in the opening half. Keys drove the lane and scored to give High Point its first lead of the game, 29-26, with 1:27 on the clock. High Point held the lead for the rest of the period, taking a 30-28 lead in to the break.

The Panthers opened up a nine-point lead to begin the second half. HPU grabbed seven offensive rebounds in the first three minutes of the period to help open up a 37-28 lead. High Point held the lead until Morrissey’s three-pointer tied the game. 58-58, with 6:08 to play. Norwood followed with a three pointer to put Furman ahead, 61-58, and give the team a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

High Point shot 36.7 percent from the floor in the game while Furman shot 49.1 percent. The Panthers outrebounded Furman 48-36.

The Panthers begin Big South Conference play on Friday against Longwood. Tip off at the Millis Center is set for 7 p.m. HPU is 16-11 all-time against the Lancers and has won the last four meetings.
