Not a bad year for our boy/man Lynn Coble, former baseball coach at SE Guilford HS:His football team, Parkwood #16 seed in Round Four of the playoffs on Friday night

Lynn Coble, the former head baseball coach at Southeast Guilford High School, and a former assistant coach for Fritz Hessenthaler and the Falcon football team; weil our boy/man Lynn is still in the NCHSAA Football Playoffs, as we head to Round Four, on Friday night…Coble is the head football for the Parkwood Rebels.

He took the SEG baseball team to State Finals back around 2007,(vs. C.B. Aycock) in Raleigh at N.C. State, and now Coble is trying to to the same thing with the Parkwood Rebels’ football team…

When Lynn Coble took over, Parkwood was getting the snot beat out of them and now they are vying for a State Championship….

The number 16 seed(2-AA West) is looking to get the lead and then get the win this Friday night against Monroe, at Monroe…

Can they take down Monroe and go all the way? The way that they play, they have been the underdog and doing it their way/winning in every game, up to this point….

The baseball man/boy has become a football boy/man….

Lynn means WIN and Coble is legit….And I’m sure he is too legit to quit….

And we say boy, along with the term man, not out of disrespect, but as a term, so to speak, like that’s our boy Lynn Coble making good with the #16 seed…Almost just like that’s our man Lynn Coble making real good with that #16 seed….

We knew him when, and now this young man is really starting to win with Parkwood and his Rebels are looking real good in the Playoffs….

Coble’s team was (5-6) coming into the playoffs/post-season and now they sit at (8-6) after winning three in a-row, after the first three rounds of the NCHSAA football playoffs….

A tip of the cap to our boy/man Lynn Coble today and we wish him well in the playoffs tomorrow night at Monroe….

Coble’s kids from Parkwood(Seed #16) in the playoffs:
Week #1-Beat #1 Franklin
Week #2-Beat #9 Forest Hills
Week #3-Beat #5 Gastonia Hunter Huss
Week #4-Meets #2 Monroe December 6
Week #5-Could face East #1 High Point Andrews on December 14 for the 2-AA Title….

MONROE —In their state quarterfinal win over Hunter Huss last week, the Parkwood Rebels didn’t turn the football over.

Coach Lynn Coble says his team will need a similar showing to stay in the game tonight, when the Rebels travel to Monroe for the first-ever state semifinal game between two Union County football teams.

Monroe and Parkwood met in the regular season in late October on the same field and the Redhawks cruised to a 46-7 victory.

Parkwood had three turnovers in the loss, and two of them were returned for touchdowns.

“The biggest thing we harped on all week was to take care of the football,” Coble said after Wednesday’s practice. “Monroe does a really good job of taking advantage of your mistakes. We have to limit our mistakes. We can’t feed the lion.”

While Monroe (12-2) has been an established powerhouse for most of this millennium, the Rebels just caught fire a month ago.

They’ve won four straight after once being 4-6.

To keep it going, and advance to the state title game for the first time in the program’s 50-year history, Coble believes his team has to keep the score down.

“We know going into this, it has to be a war for us to be in it,” Coble said. “We have to meet their physicality and not fall victim to it. I’m very impressed with Monroe on both sides of the ball. They’re very good up front. They’ve always been very athletic but now they have a great line, too.”

With such high stakes, tonight’s matchup has drawn a lot of attention.

Coble has asked his players to ignore the swirl surrounding the West Regional title game.

“Early in the week we sat the kids down and told them to stay off social media,” Coble said. “To get out of there and not to get caught up in all the hype. We’ve tried to keep our focus on the practice field and on the game.”

  1. Most memorable line I heard from Lynn one year during the playoffs. From the dugout to the catcher “I know you did not just throw that ball from your knees with the tying run on third…I didn’t think so.” Lynn was always teaching and most of the time through humor.

Great guy who I miss dearly.

  2. That was some kind of team back then with Moyer, Cockman, Medley, Venable and more…And I don’t think that Josh Tobias was there yet when they went to the finals in Raleigh…Pretty sure that was Cockman, Moyer and Medley’s junior year and then Josh joined the next season….
