Wyndham Championship Earns Best Advertising Campaign Award

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Wyndham Championship (Greensboro, N.C.) was honored by the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s Tournament Meetings on Thursday, December 5, at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., earning an award for “Best Advertising Campaign” for the 2013 tournament at Sedgefield Country Club for the second year in a row. The event was nominated for five awards overall.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I am pleased to congratulate the Wyndham Championship for being named the best among its peers on TOUR,” said PGA TOUR EVP and Chief of Operations Andy Pazder. “The tournament committee should be proud of the special recognition the event has earned for its efforts.”

The Wyndham Championship’s “Escape to Wyndham” theme, which positions a trip to the tournament as an escape from everyday life or a mini-vacation for fans, could be found all over the Piedmont Triad area and, in particular, at Sedgefield Country Club, where the tournament continues to grow its branding efforts each year on behalf of title sponsor Wyndham Worldwide.

New on-course upgrades in 2013 included new tee markers shaped as beach chairs, new tee backs designed to look like a pilings on a dock, the Wishes by Wyndham Charity expo and the very popular debut of Margaritaville at the Wyndham.

The campaign also included extensive branding in the Piedmont Triad International Airport, at the Wingate by Wyndham Hotel in Greensboro and on a number of billboards throughout the region.

“This award is great news for the Wyndham Championship and Wyndham Worldwide,” Wyndham Championship tournament director Mark Brazil said. “I am proud to accept this award on behalf of the Wyndham Championship and our partners at Wyndham Worldwide. I really appreciate the efforts of our marketing team with Wyndham, Company 20 and our advertising agency, WilsonMcGuire Creative.”

The 2014 Wyndham Championship, won this year by Patrick Reed, will be held August 14-17 at Sedgefield Country Club.
