WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s track and field team set two school records in Saturday’s JDL Fast Track College Kickoff Meet. The Quakers were one of two NCAA Division III schools in the season-opening meet.

Freshman Kate Jenkins-Sullivan set a new standard in the 1,000-meter run with a time of three minutes, 53.84 seconds. Her mark was better than 27 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2012. Jenkins-Sullivan placed 16th in the race.

Sophomore Tess Stryk established Guilford’s fastest time in the 500 meters with a time of 1:32.00. Her mark was 30 seconds faster than the previous standard and placed 27th in the 30-runner field.

Jenkins-Sullivan and Stryk were both part of the Quakers’ 4×400 relay team that posted the fifth-fastest time in school history. The pair, along with Emily Cash and Naomi Madaras, placed 22nd in the race in 4:54.54.

Sophomore Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) ran the third-fastest mile time in school history with a time of 5:42.23. She finished 10th among 14 contestants, tops among Division III runners.

Coach Danny Cash’s unit returns to action Jan. 19 at the Winston-Salem State Open, which will also be held at the JDL Fast Track facility.
