Women’s Basketball: Guilford 57, North Carolina Wesleyan 47

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gabby Oglesby scored 13 points in 25 minutes to lift Guilford to a 57-47 nonconference win over North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at the Ragan Brown Field House.

Oglesby hit six of her seven shots from the floor and also pulled down seven rebounds in the win.

The Quakers (6-1) never trailed in the game yet did not play particularly well in the first half. They held a 27-21 edge at intermission despite shooting just 30.8% from the floor and committing 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of the game.

But Guilford came out and played better in the second half. The Quakers opened the period on a 24-11 run and coach Stephanie Flamini was able to give big minutes to her reserves. In all, 15 players saw the court for Guilford.

Oglesby was one of three Quakers to notch double digit points for the day. She was joined by Morgan King, who scored 11 points, including 9-of-10 from the line. Brittany Drew chimed in with 10 points.

The Bishops (1-4) were able to score some fast break buckets late in the game to get the margin down to 10 points. Tiffany Bell scored a game-high 18 points to lead the visitors.

It was the fourth time in seven games that Guilford held its opponents to under 50 points this season.

This was the last home game of 2013 for the Quakers, who hit the road for their next five contests. Next up is a battle against city-rival Greensboro on Saturday, December 14th at 2:00 pm.
