Elon Volleyball’s Harris Receives All-State Honors

ELON, N.C. – Elon volleyball’s Kris Harris has been named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State second team for the 2013 season, announced today, Dec. 9.

Harris, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in mid-October, played in 21 of Elon’s 33 matches during the season. Prior to the injury, the junior was Elon’s power on both offense and defense, recording 198 kills and 77 blocks in 78 sets played. Harris hit .302 and averaged 2.54 kills per set as a middle blocker. On defense, she averaged nearly one block a set (0.99), while 17 of her 77 blocks were solo. Harris also tallied 25 aces, a team season-high, to average 0.32 aces/set.

She saw a career-high 17 kills against Radford and matched her career high of eight blocks against Tennessee State. Over the course of her shortened season, Harris posted nine double-digit kill performances and hit over .300 in nine matches.

During the season, Harris was selected to the Kristen Dickmann Invitational, Elon Phoenix Classic and 49er Invitational all-tournament teams, while also being named the 49er Invitational MVP. This is the second straight year Harris has earned NCCSIA All-State honors.
