HARRISONBURG, Va., Dec. 9, 2013 – James Madison freshman guard Jackson Kent (High Point, N.C./High Point Christian/Page HS) averaged 12 points and 4.5 rebounds last week in a pair of games in Texas to claim Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week accolades.

Kent tallied 11 points to go with a season high of seven rebounds and three steals in a one-point setback to Sam Houston State at the E-Tech Lumberjack Classic in Nacogdoches, Texas on Friday. He followed that with 13 points, his second-most of the season, on Saturday against host Stephen F. Austin. For the week, he shot 45.5 percent from the floor, including 3-for-5 from the arc, and went 11-for-14 at the free throw line. He also added nine rebounds, two assists and three steals.

For the season, Kent ranks as JMU’s fourth-leading scorer and highest among its seven freshmen with 9.4 points per game, which also ranks third among current CAA freshmen. His 3.5 rebounds per game sits fourth among league rookies. He has also added eight steals and leads JMU both in made three-pointers (13) and three-point percentage (.361).

JMU is off this week for semester examinations before resuming its eight-game road swing at High Point on Saturday at 7 p.m.
