NCCSIA Announces 2013 North Carolina College Division All-State Volleyball Team

The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2013 College Division All-State Volleyball Teams on Monday. Fourteen players representing eight different North Carolina Colleges and Universities were selected to the first and second teams.

Wingate University leads the way with three selections on the first team, while Belmont Abbey has two first team selections. Queens University of Charlotte and Mount Olive also each have a representative on the first team.

Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Hannah Schellenberg is a first team All-State outside hitter. The All-Region selection led the league with 4.02 kills per set, ranking eighth with 3.18 digs per set while hitting .280. She led the Crusaders to the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament title, along with a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. First team All-SAC selection Kerri Kemp is also a first team All-State outside hitter. The second team All-Region selection finished third in the SAC with 3.80 kills per set, adding 2.68 digs per set. Kemp helped the Royals earn their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid.

Wingate’s Lexi Potter, a first team All-SAC and All-Region selection is a first team All-State middle blocker. Potter led the SAC with a .375 hitting percentage, ranking second with 1.15 blocks per set. Potter is joined by Mount Olive’s Carly White. A first team All-Conference Carolinas and second team All-Region selection, White ranked second in the conference with 1.04 blocks per set and fourth with 3.09 kills per set and a .328 hitting percentage.

Wingate’s Anna Hilton, the SAC and Region Player of the Year, is the first team right-side selection. The 2012 AVCA All-American led the ninth-ranked Bulldogs to their second consecutive regional title and eight straight SAC regular season and tournament championships. Hilton ranked third in the SAC in hitting percentage and blocks per set, sixth in kills per set and 11th in digs per set.

All-SAC and All-Region setter Alison Cooke of Wingate is the first team All-State setter. Cooke averaged 9.51 assists and 2.48 digs per set, running the Bulldog offense that led the conference in kills per set, assists per set and hitting percentage.

Belmont Abbey’s Ana Maria Pagan is the first team All-State libero. The Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year also earned first team All-Conference Carolinas honors. She had a school-record 510 digs in the 2013 season, leading the league with 4.86 digs per set.

The NCCSIA All-State second team is comprised of outside hitters Moriah Hughes (Johnson & Wales) and Karlie Long (Meredith), middle blocker Allison Rickher (Wingate) and Melissa Cochran (Barton), right-side hitter Anna Gibbs (Queens), setter Taylor Riley (Queens) and libero Maggie Murphy (Mars Hill).

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
