The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2013 University Division All-State Volleyball Teams on Monday. Fourteen players representing seven different North Carolina Colleges and Universities were selected to the first and second teams.
Two Big South Conference schools led the way with seven total players on the two teams. High Point had the most honorees with four while UNC Asheville placed three on the All-State teams.
High Point’s Chelsea Davis was the leading vote getter among outside hitters. Davis led the Big South with 4.15 kills per set on her way to first-team All-Conference honors. Karrian Chambers of UNC Greensboro collected first-team All-State honors for the second-straight year as an outside hitter. She was a first-team All-Southern Conference honoree while becoming the ninth player in UNCG history to record 1,000 kills, finishing her career with 1,136.
UNC Asheville’s Anna Moore and Charlotte’s Amanda Videmsik were named first-team middle blockers. Moore was a first-team All-Big South honoree while leading the Bulldogs in blocks (0.99 per set) and attack percentage (.326). Videmsik took home All-State honors for the second straight year while leading Charlotte with 10 double-doubles. She averaged 3.45 kills and 2.37 digs per set and was named All-Conference USA second team.
Christi Laite from UNC Wilmington was named to the All-State team for the second time in her career, also collecting the honor in 2011. The right side hitter was named to the All-CAA first team and All-Tournament team while averaging 3.21 kills per set with a .266 attack percentage.
Charlotte’s setter Britney Leigh Held dished out 10.52 assists per set to earn a spot on the All-State first team. UNC Asheville’s libero Rachel Wells rounds out the first team. She led the NCAA with 6.38 digs per set.
The NCCSIA All-State second team is comprised of UNC Wilmington’s Nicole Lott, UNC Asheville’s Christine Lakatos, Elon’s Kris Harris, East Carolina’s Nicole Willis and High Point’s Savannah Angel, Maddie Simpson and Annemarie Chin. Harris, Willis and Chin all received All-State honors for the second consecutive season. Simpson is the only three-time honoree on the list, earning All-State accolades in 2010 and 2012.
