Billy Jack:”One Tin Soldier Rides Away”(Tom Laughlin dead at age 82)[Now with the video clips that made “The Legend of Billy Jack” famous]

“Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend, do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end, there won’t be any trumpets blowing come the judgement day, on the bloody morning afternoon, “One Tin Soldier Rides Away”…..

That is how the tune from the movie went, or something like that…Could probably find it on YouTube if you went looking hard ennough, but the real news is, “Billy Jack is GONE”…(You won’t find him around any more.)

The headlines read, “Billy Jack Creator Tom Laughlin dead at age 82”….

Hard to think of Billy Jack in terms of 82 years old, but he was and they list the cause of death as pneumonia….

There has to be a lot of you out there that remember the ‘Billy Jack’ movies….

Remember the theme song from the movie, ‘One Tin Soldier’??? You can probably sing along with some of the lyrics that I have listed above….

I remember seeing the ‘Billy Jack’ movie at the Terrace Theater in the Friendly Shopping Center, back in the 70’s….That was some kind of powerful movie and Billy Jack had some kind of powerful martial arts kicks too…And remember when he let the snake bite him???….(I think the snake bit him in the arm.)

Billy Jack was hold up in that Native American Children’s/Reform School and would not come out until there was Reform….”Justice for the Chidren” and better condtions, or Billy wouldn’t budge…..

Remember when the authorities finally got Billy Jack to come walking out? And he was walking out with the road lined with people cheering him on and he was walking out and down the road, to the tune of “One Tin Soldier”…..

WOW, if you ask me and nobody did, but I don’t care, I’d have to say that “Billy Jack”/Tom Laughlin, was a very big part of our pop culture……

Remember his hat? Those Billy Jack hats became pretty popular back in the 70’s….It was rare to see Billy Jack without that hat on…..

We could probably talk about Billy Jack all day long, but really if you want more on his life, his movies and his death,

If you ask me folks, “Billy Jack” was true part of Americana/Native Americana…….

What do you say, all together now and everybody sing, “Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend, do it in the name of heaven, you can justify it in the end, their won’t be any trumpets blowing come the judgement day, on the bloody morning afternoon, “One Tin Soldier Rides Away”…..

“Hey listen children to a story that was written long, bout a king that had a kingdom and the valley folk below, from the mountians came a hero, and on and on we go”…..Something next about mount your horses go insane….Gonna have to hit YouTube, this tune wears on you and takes you back to another time/place in history….

  1. Great article, Andy. Watched Billy Jack when I was a kid — still remember the memorable line he said to the head of the local bullies: “I’m gonna take this right foot, and I’m gonna whop you on that side of your face…and you wanna know something? There’s not a d–n thing you’re gonna be able to do about it.”

    A classic. RIP Tom Laughlin.
