Elon’s Koch Named SoCon Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Elon University men’s basketball team captured Southern Conference Player of the Week honors for the second straight week as senior Sebastian Koch picked up the accolade today, Dec. 17. Tanner Samson earned league player of the week honors last week.

Koch led all scorers with a career-high 27 points as Elon fell at 21st-ranked Colorado, 80-63, on Dec. 13. Koch scored all his points from beyond the arc as he went 9-of-14 from three-point range. The Munich, Germany, native added two rebounds, an assist and one steal in 30 minutes against the Buffaloes. Koch’s 27 points were the highest scoring output for an Elon player since teammate Jack Isenbarger notched 34 points against The Citadel on Feb. 4, 2012. The guard ranks second in the league with 3.2 made triples per game and is tied for 13th in scoring with 13.1 points per contest.

Koch and the Phoenix return to action tonight at 7 p.m. at Georgetown.
