Aviation Careers Jobs Fair Set for Next Week’s TIMCO Invitational presented by NewBridge Bank

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 38th annual TIMCO Invitational presented by NewBridge Bank will host its inaugural Aviation Careers Jobs Fair on site during the tournament taking place December 26-28 at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center, organizers announced today. The annual high school basketball tournament, with a mission to raise money for participating schools, will now begin helping players and interested spectators explore new careers with the addition of the jobs fair.

Since its inception in 1976, the TIMCO Invitational primary mission has been school fundraising but last year, the tournament added a new goal advocated by its new title sponsor, TIMCO Aviation Services, an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company based Piedmont Triad International Airport. When the sponsorship was announced, TIMCO chief executive officer Kevin Carter said that one of the company’s goals was to introduce local high school students and their parents to aviation as a potential career, and the tournament’s Aviation Careers Jobs Fair was subsequently created.

Companies participating in next week’s inaugural Aviation Careers Jobs Fair are TIMCO Aviation Services, HondaJet, Purolator Filters, Bridgestone Tire, Piedmont Triad International Airport, Guilford Technical Community College, the North Carolina Aviation Institute, the Andrews Aviation Academy and the Phoenix Academy Aerospace High School. Each organization will host an exhibit at the tournament where information will be provided about career options with the company and industry. In addition, tournament presenting sponsor NewBridge Bank will host its own exhibit with a computer program that will project what a current high school student could earn through a career in aviation.

Carter said, “TIMCO is proud to continue its sponsorship of the Invitational and we are very excited to participate in the new Aviation Careers Jobs Fair.” He continued, “Our industry is facing a hiring challenge in coming years in critical technical and non-technical skills areas, and we are hopeful that many of the young people beginning their career search may find various aspects of our industry exciting enough to explore further.”

“We are delighted that TIMCO Aviation Services has created the Aviation Careers Jobs Fair,” tournament co-chairman Dan O’Shea said. “Since the TIMCO Invitational was founded 38 years ago, the goal has been to raise money for charity and our participating schools. But with TIMCO joining our event last year, we are now helping the student participants find a job while they are still in high school, and that is a tremendous added benefit for them and their parents. We sincerely appreciate all that the folks at TIMCO have done and continue to do to enhance the event.”

The Aviation Careers Jobs Fair will be located in southeast corner of court No. 1 adjacent to the grandstand, and it will be open from 5 p.m. until the last game of the day begins. From the tournament’s main entrance, people interested in visiting the Aviation Careers Jobs Fair need only turn right and walk past the south end of court No. 1 to get to the location. Personnel from each of the participating companies’ will be available to answer questions and provide details about their companies and related careers in the aviation industry.
