Do Taxes On Gate City FC Ticket Prices Go Into Effect Today ?

(Editor Note: This new state tax applies to Grasshoppers and Dynamo as well.)

January 1, 2014 – Greensboro, NC – Event ticket prices will be going up, effective today, as a new state tax on admission prices to movie houses, theaters, museums, professional athletic contests and a host of nonprofit events goes into effect. Gate City FC, Greensboro’s professional soccer team is having many calls and emails with question about the new law. The tax is causing confusion, as many our fans still don’t know what effect it will have on our prices.

Justin Cox, President of Gate City FC, said “Early on he likewise was a little confused and didn’t know how the tax would impact their price of tickets”, which range from $5 per game to $45 for season tickets. Gate City FC front office looked into the options and found that tickets for live events that went on sale before Jan 1, 2014 will not be affected by the new tax even if fans purchase them after the New Year.

So the law will not affect Gate City FC ticket prices for 2014 tickets that are already on sale for events scheduled this year. The sales tax doesn’t apply regardless of whether you buy the tickets last week, next week or next summer.

As for the future of the tax on Gate City FC tickets David Ulmsten, General Manger of Gate City FC said, “It is obviously a large change, and we want to take the time to evaluate our options. I don’t know of a single organization that could pass on a 6.5% increase without considering every option to assist their biggest asset, the fans.” So for now it will be at least another year before we know the true impact of the latest tax bill on our organization and our fans wallet.
