Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Eastern Guilford girls tonight with Cowgirls winners on Monk’s last second shot and one of the ‘Top Five’ Games of the Year

Final:Eastern Guilford 61, Southwest Guilford 60….End of 1st Q it was SWG 26, EG 13….By halftime it was SWG 38, EG 32….End of three quarters it was SWG 51, EG 49…EG moved ahead in the 4th quarter and get up by as many as five points, before SWG came back and got that final shot to win the game with only one second/tick on the clock when Lashonda Monk hit the game-winner….Big early runs by SWG led by Briana Burgins and then Jenea Rogers took over for SWG and Monk put the finishing touches on the game…..Burgins was just tearing up the two’s early and then Rogers went to work and she was money….Callie Patterson was money all night long for Eastern and she kept her team around and gave them the chance for the win…The Sheares kid for EG came up with some very three-point shots and she was wearing #14 and I have her for at least three three’s on my sheet…Sheares had us in tears and she showed ‘No Fears’….Williamson was another terror for EG and she reminds you of Helen Terry, who was the top point guard for coach Kris Btitton, over at Dudley, back when Coach B and the Panthers won the State Title….

Again, one of the ‘Top Five’ games that I have seen this year for the ladies…..61-60 and at one time it looked for sure like EG was done and then they came back behind Patterson, Williamson, Sheares and Carole Alston….SWG put their hopes in the hands of Burgins, Rogers, Kennedy Porter and Lashonda Monk and they didn’t disappoint…Duncan Hackney also gave them a boost….SWG way up, lost the lead and took it back and won it down the final stretch run….

Excellent effort by both teams, especially coming out of the Holidays and now it is just about time to go full-time and bring on the conference action all of the time….Good job coaches Scarborough(SWG) and Britton(EG) and both of these teams should make a deep run in the playoffs…..I told somebody, “don’t sleep on Eastern Guilford going into this game tonight”, and I was right…..
