LaGrange Drops Pride Greensboro College Men’s Basketball In USA South Action 86-76

GREENSBORO, NC—The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team dropped their USA South contest on Sunday afternoon to the Panthers of LaGrange College by a 86-76 score.

In the first half of play, The Pride jumped out to an early 6-1 lead before LaGrange came back to tie the game with 17:02 remaining in the half. From that point the Panthers went on a 8-2 run to pull out to a six point lead at 14-8 with 14:06 remaining. Greensboro did not give up when they got down, and was able to fight back to regain the lead at 20-19 just five minutes later. During the run that gave The Pride the lead, Devan Gregory got the momentum started in Greensboro’s favor converting an old fashion three point play making the score 17-14 in favor of LaGrange with 12:11 to go in the half. The Pride was able to get their largest lead of the half with 5:39 to go until half time at 31-24. However, the Panthers offense proved too much as they were able to storm into the lead by as many as ten before Hamilton Hawkins hit a long three pointer as time expired in the half to bring The Pride back to within seven at 44-37.

Coming out of the break, the Panthers were able to put Greensboro in a nine point hole before they went on a 7-0 with 18:19 remaining to pull within two at 46-44. During the seven point run, Damian Dixon accounted for the first five points before Raheem Martin capped of the run with a layup to bring in to within one possession. After Greensboro made the run, LaGrange responded back to go up by double digits again but The Pride could not recover. Down the stretch for Greensboro, Jacob Thomas brought a little bit more life to The Pride connecting on three straight three pointers bringing the deficit to 12 at 83-71 with 1:34 remaining.

Greensboro had four players score in double digits in the game. The Pride’s Damian Dixon scored a game high 24 points to go along with a team high 10 rebounds. Jermaine Bates added ten points for Greensboro, while Devan Gregory and Jacob Thomas added ten points apiece.

“LaGrange was the better team tonight, and we have may areas that we need to improve on both ends of of the court”, Head Coach Bryan Galuski said after the game. “We have to find a way to battle through the adversity and improve ourselfs as a team.”

With the loss for The Pride, they fall to 3-8 on the season and start out conference play with a 0-2 record. The Pride will return back to USA South play when they travel to foe Maryville College next Friday in Maryville, TN. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
