Greensboro College Pride Basketball Players Named Conference Rookies of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, NC– The USA South Athletic Conference announced their weekly award winners for basketball games through January 5th on Monday afternoon. Greensboro College received rookie of the week honors on both the men’s and the women’s side. Devan Gregory received his first rookie of the week award, while Joslyn Spires was awarded her second rookie of the week honor of the season.

Both Gregory and Spires will return to action with their teammates on the road on Friday, when they travel on the road to take on the Scots of Maryville College. The women’s games is set to start at 5:30 PM while the men’s game will follow at 7:30 PM.

Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week
Devan Gregory, Greensboro – The Greensboro, North Carolina freshman guard averaged 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per contest in a 1-2 week for The Pride. In a 91-75 win over Oneonta State, Gregory totaled 21 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal. In an 89-88 loss to USA South foe Huntingdon, Gregory contributed ten points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Finally, in an 86-76 loss to USA South rival LaGrange, Gregory tallied ten points, five rebounds and one assist. Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week
Joslyn Spires, Greensboro – The Thomasville, North Carolina freshman guard averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest as The Pride posted a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In an 79-66 win over Huntingdon, Spires totaled 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals. In a 66-51 victory over LaGrange, Spires contributed 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
