Game Report: Southwest Guilford vs Wheatmore Boys Basketball

The Cowboys of Souwest hit the road and face off against the Warriors of Wheatmore. Before the game tipped off, word spread amongst the Cowboy bus that Guilford County Schools announced a 2 hour delay. Unfortunately the Cowboys seemed to start the game on a delay as well.

The first quarter was back and forth thanks to some uncharacteristic Southwest turnovers and general sloppy play. Despite the poor energy and efficiency, a small spurt by the Cowboys put them up 14-10 at the close of the first quarter.

The second half was the same story, but without either team gaining any traction as the margin remained the same headed into the break 31-27 in favor of the visitors. Once the Cowboys realized that their delay was over, they decided to come out and play.

The third quarter finally had the typical burst of energy and tempo as Southwest got into a rhythm and put some distance between the Warriors. A few late baskets by Wheatmore put the deficit back into single digits just before the close of the quarter 58-49.

The final quarter continued on that thread as the Cowboys put more baskets and steals together and maintained control throughout the close of the game, cruising to an 82-61 victory,

Wheatmore was led by Ryan Grant and Wyatt Rains with 15 apiece. Southwest was led by Ben Ferguson with 16, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, Arjun Patel with 14, 5 Rebs, Tyliek Brister with 12, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, and Kam Langley with 12, 5 Ast, 4 Reb, 2 Stls.

The Cowboys move to 10-3 and next host Southeast Guilford on Wednesday Night.
