Women’s Basketball: Guilford 53, Shenandoah 44

WINCHESTER, Va. – Morgan King and Gabby Oglesby scored nine points apiece to lift Guilford to a 53-44 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon. It was the second straight win for the Quakers and the seventh victory in their last eight games.

Guilford (10-2, 2-1 ODAC) trailed 14-11 with six minutes left in the first half. But the Quakers ended the half on a 12-2 run. King scored seven points in the spurt and Sarah Burnick added Guilford’s remaining five points.

The run gave the Quakers a 23-16 halftime lead. Guilford started the second half on an 8-2 run and never trailed the rest of the way.

Nine different players scored for Guilford.

In addition to their balanced scoring attack, the Quakers played a strong defensive game. They limited the hosts to 25% shooting from the floor and held a 15 rebound advantage. The only thing that kept the game close was Shenandoah’s performance at the line, where it outscored Guilford, 22-11.

Holly Chittenden led Shenandoah (4-8, 1-2 ODAC) with 16 points.

The Quakers return home Saturday for their first game at Ragan Brown Field house in three weeks when they host ODAC rival Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 pm.
