Southwest Guilford Cowboys playing on delay early, but then hit the clock and rock the SEG Falcons at ‘The Ranch'(SWG still unbeaten at home this season)

The Cowboys of Southwest played hosts to the Falcons of Southeast Guilford tonight. The Cowboys are coming off a nice road victory over Wheatmore to play at home where they are undefeated this season. The Falcons are coming in to tonights contest following a blowout loss to the Page Pirates. For the second straight night the Cowboys followed GCS Policy and played on a 2 hour delay.

The opening half was an ugly, unmotivated, flat, and quite frankly pathetic effort. Southeast was able to take control of the opening quarter and maintain the lead throughout, finishing it at 16-12. The Falcons got up 20-12 early in the second quarter before the Cowboys scored. Southwest started to pick up the effort midway through the frame and chipped away, and tied he game up for the first time all night at the 50 second mark. Utilizing a steal and layup shortly thereafter, the Cowboys took their very first lead of the night at 28-26 going into the break despite commiting more turnovers in the half than any other entire game on the season.

Thankfully the 2 hour delay was up and the Cowboys decided to play basketball in the second half. The effort and intensity and execution returned as Southwest forced turnovers into baskets and by the 3:47 mark it was 38-28. A blink later it was 45-30. The Cowboys were able to take a 56-38 lead at the close of the third thanks to a much better defensive effort in the frame.

The final quarter opened along the same lines as the lead ballooned further. The Falcons kept scrapping and didn’t let it get too out of hand and showed toughness throughout. In the end however, the Cowboys were just too much in the second half as they ended up winning 77-51 for their 6th straight victory and remain unbeaten at home on the season.

The Falcons were paced by Josh Crutchfield and Tommy Michaels with 12 apeice. Southwest was led by Kam Langley with 15, 7 Stl, 5 Reb, Tyliek Brister with 12, 2 Rebs, 2 Stl, 2 Ast, as well as a great all around game by Beb Ferguson with 5, 10 Rebs, 2 Ast, 2 Stl, and a Block. The Cowboys move on to 11-3 and open up Conference play on the road at Glenn Friday night.
