Elon Women’s Basketball Looks to Rebound Against Eagles

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (5-10, 1-3 SoCon) will look to get back in the win column when it plays at Georgia Southern (5-11, 3-2 SoSon) on Monday, Jan. 13. Tip is set for 7 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Ga.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix cut a once 18-point deficit to just three with under a minute to play at Davidson on Saturday, but was not able to pull ahead, falling to the Wildcats, 67-62. Elon saw a team-high 18 points from Kelsey Harris and several career highs from Lauren Brown who finished with 15 points, six field goals, five assists and three steals. Zora Stephenson also finished in double figures with 11 points after hitting three three-pointers.

Scouting the Eagles
GSU claimed a 74-71 win over UNCG on Saturday to improve to a 3-2 conference record. Anna Claire Knight, who is averaging 15.4 points per game on the season, scored a game-high 24 points off eight field goals. MiMi DuBose posted 18 points in the win and is now recording 10.6 points/game. The Eagles score an average of 60.9 points each game, while their opponents post 70.3 points per game.

The Series
GSU is one game ahead of the Phoenix in the all-time series, 11-10, however, Elon has won the last four meetings. The Phoenix took home a 76-65 victory over the Eagles last season after a career-high 31 points and 14 field goals from Kelsey Evans.

Former Elon forward Kelsey Evans ’13 now resides in Statesboro, Ga., while she is pursuing her graduate degree in kinesiology. Evans is also one of GSU’s practice players and still gets the chance to showcase her talent as she finished her collegiate career with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.

Looking Ahead
Elon will return home for its first game in Alumni Gym in 2014 on Friday, Jan. 17. The Phoenix will host Appalachian State in a 7 p.m. tip.
