Game Report from Vlanzy – Ragsdale at Southwest Guilford Boys Basketball

City and Conference rivals Southwest Guilford and Ragsdale faced off tonight. This matchup had the Cowboys hosting and coming off a conference win on the road against Glenn, and the Tigers are coming off a home victory over Northwest. Both teams were looking to keep atop the conference standings.

Southwest came into tonight’s contest having won the last 4 straight match-ups. The Cowboys came out and took control right away, using the great atmosphere to their advantage going up 5-0 quickly. The hosts maintained control for the entire opening act, finishing it up 16-9.

The second quarter was matching baskets until a quick 4-0 spurt by the Cowboys got the margin to double digits at 25-15 at the 3:40 mark. Another Southwest basket got it to 27-15, and then the teams traded baskets again, with the tally getting to 30-19 in favor of Southwest headed into the break.

The third quarter has been the strength of the Cowboys all season and true to form Southwest came out on a roll and by the 4:40 mark it was 40-24. Thanks to swarming defense and good execution the Cowboys got it to 48-28 a couple minutes later. By the time the third period ended the scoreboard read 55-34.

The final quarter was full of action and little defense. The Tigers wouldn’t let their arch-rivals run completely away with it. Ragsdale slowly bit into the lead and whitled it down to 74-64 thanks to bad execution and poor decision making by the Cowboys. Southwest was able to regroup and regain control thanks to some key steals and rebounds and knocked in free-throws to push the final tally back out for the final score of 81-66.

The Tigers were led by Tevin Quick with 16. Southwest was led by Kam Langley with 17, 3 Ast, 3 Stl, Ben Ferguson with 12, 4 Reb, 2 Ast, and DJ Chamblee with 10, 6 Ast, 6 Reb, and 3 Stl. Southwest moves to 13-3 and 2-0 in Conference play.
