The Cowboys of Southwest played hosts to the visiting Vikings of Northwest in a conference clash. Southwest is coming into tonight’s contest off of a tough road loss that ended an 8 game winning streak. The Vikings were able to reschedule thier conference game to next week so didn’t have to play last night. Emotions were riding high for the Cowboys after losing a conference game for the first time in 2 years.
Tonights game opened up with the Vikings scoring the first 6 points of the game. The Cowboys responded quickly with 7 straight of their own. After a Viking free-throw, the Cowboys went on another run to get it to 18-9. Northwest managed a 5 point spurt to close the stanze putting it at 18-14 for SW.
The second quarter was back and forth the entire frame with the margin staying roughly the same of 5-7 in favor of Southwest, ultimately landing at 32-27.
The third quarter was a continuation of the dog fight with the tally ending at 49-44.
For the second straight night the fourth quarter was very dramatic for the Cowboys. Northwest managed to claim the lead at 50-49. The teams traded baskets, then the Vikings took control and got the lead to 55-51 at the 3:18 mark. After a timeout, the Cowboys pressure caused 3 straight turnovers in the full court nad was able to tie the ball game up at 55-55 off a free-throw. Unable to hit the other from the charity stripe would be the doom of the Cowboys in the end once on consecutive nights. On Northwest’s next possession, they drew a foul, but only hit the front end of the freebies, putting it at 56-55 with 58 seconds left. Neither team was able to score but following a tough rebound and push up the floor, Southwest was able to draw a foul with 5.7 seconds left. After missing the first free-throw, the second was made tying the game at 56. Southwest stayed in pressure and stole the ball right at midcourt but an extremely questionable backcourt violation was called giving the Vikings possession back at halfcourt with 3.2 left. Southwest played solid defense and to Overtime we headed. In the extra session, it was some ugly basketball by the Cowboys. Costly turnovers, missing point blank looks, and more missed freethrow.
Southwest’s KJ Langley opened up the frame with a jumper giving the Cowoboys a 58–56 lead. The score would remain the same until Northwest managed to get a basket and the foul putting them up 59-58 at the 1:08 mark. Southwest was able to work it down to just under 25 seconds left and scored a pair of free throws by Kaymon Mitchell giving the Cowboys the lead at 60-59. The Vikings possessed the ball, and were being pressured by Southwest, but Nick Powell found a seam with under 3 seconds left and drove the lane and put up a floater that went through the net just before the sound of the horn, giving the Vikings the dramatic victory at 61-60.
Southwest was led by Ben Ferguson with 12, 3 Stl, 3 Reb. Northwest was led by Hampton Billips with 12.

GAME NOTES:
–Northwest Guilford pulled out a thrilling overtime victory versus Southwest Guilford with a great overall team effort by a slim 61-60 margin. The Vikings finished the 4th game with a flurry to claw back into the contest which the Cowboys controlled from the start. Nick Powell hit a floater in the lane with no time left on the clock.
–The Vikings were led by Hampton Billips’ 12 points and 8 rebounds. Colson Everett finished with 11 points for Northwest and Jalen Gore contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
–B. Ferguson led the Cowboys with 12 points while KJ Langley and A. Patel added 10 points each for Southwest.
