Greensboro College Pride Men Struggle In Loss Against Monarchs

FAYETTEVILLE, NC—The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team dropped their second consecutive conference matchup to the Monarchs of Methodist University by a final score of 82-62.

In the first half of the game, the Pride struggled from the field early falling behind 21-2 seven and a half minutes into the game. Greensboro would slowly chip into the deficit, pulling to within nine when Brandon Pascucci hit a three making the score 35-26 with 3:35 remaining in the first half of play. Methodist was to respond right back, extending their lead to 43-27 going into the intermission period.

After the halftime break, the Monarchs kept pulling away from the Pride taking their largest lead of the 75-47 with 6:14 left showing in the game. After falling behind by the 28 point margin, Greensboro was able to muster an 8-2 run pulling to within a 77-55 score with 1:33 on the clock. Jermaine Bates got the run started for the Pride and was capped off by a pair of free throws from Christopher Corbin. In the end, the Pride fell by the 82-62 final.

Devan Gregory had a team high 20 point for the Pride, and Jacob Thomas had 12 points from connecting on four shots from long range. Hamilton Hawkins and Jermaine Bates led the way on the boards for Greensboro with four a piece.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 6-11 overall on the season and 2-5 in USA South conference play. The Pride men will return to action on January 29th, when they travel to take on fellow USA South member Ferrum College. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
