Changes Made in NCHSAA in Regional Swimming and Diving Schedule

CHAPEL HILL—The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced Thursday afternoon a number of changes to its schedule for the upcoming NCHSAA regionals in swimming and diving.

The snow and ice which hit basically the entire state has forced adjustments in the schedules.

Three of the eight swimming regionals, including 1A/2A East, 3A East and 3A West, are being moved to the first of next week. The 1-A/2A East and 3-A West will now be held on Monday, with the 3-A East now scheduled for Tuesday. Each of the other swimming regionals have adjustments in starting times.

For diving, six of the eight regionals are being moved from Friday to either Saturday or Monday. Only the 1-A/2-A West and 4-A West regionals in diving have no change from their original schedule.

“A number of factors went into the decision to adjust the regional swimming and diving schedules,” said Davis Whitfield, commissioner of the NCHSAA. “Such things as facility availability, certain parts of the state being impacted more than others by the weather, many school systems still being out of school, and the state championship schedule all were part of the discussion. We believe the adjustments will help with student-athlete safety for travel while still providing enough time between the regional competitions and the state meets.”
