College Men’s Basketball Final – Guilford 60, Randolph 58

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Zeb Richardson scored a game-high 16 points, including the go-ahead basket with 2:09 left, in Guilford College’s 60-58 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Randolph College Wednesday.

Richardson tallied 12 second-half points on six-of-nine shooting from the floor, which helped the Quakers (13-4, 8-1 ODAC) maintain a share of first place in the ODAC standings. His biggest basket was a layup off an Alston Furr assist with just over two minutes to play, which broke a 56-56 tie, the game’s third and final draw.

Jake Hopkins’ tip-in with 30 seconds left made it a four-point Guilford lead, before Randolph’s Corey Brown stuck a jumper in the lane with 11 seconds left. The Wildcats stole the inbounds pass and called timeout to set up Seth Wimbish’s potential game-tying layup, which did not drop. Hopkins corralled the rebound to seal the Quakers’ fifth win in six games.

The Quakers’ defense made a season-high 14 steals forced 21 Wildcats’ turnovers, which led to 26 points. Hopkins four steals and collected a game-high 11 rebounds. Matt McCarthy had three steals, plus 14 points and four assists. Trever Hyatt helped the Quakers rally from six points down early in the second half with 11 points off the bench, including three second-half three-pointers.
