Skrosky Completes Elon Phoenix Football Staff With Hiring of Patrick Madden

ELON, N.C. — The final addition to new Elon Phoenix football coach Rich Skrosky’s staff is now in place. Skrosky has hired former Tufts University assistant coach Patrick Madden as a defensive assistant and assistant special teams coach.

Madden spent the past two seasons with the Jumbos of Tufts. In his time with that program, Madden served as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator (2013) and the defensive line coach and co-special teams coordinator (2012). In 2013, Tufts kickers rated fourth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in kickoff yardage, averaging 58.7 yards per kick. That year Madden coached Mike Rando to first-team all-league honors as a return specialist. In his first season with the program the Jumbos ranked near the top of the league in kickoff return average, punt return average and punting average.

Prior to joining the staff at Tufts, Madden spent the 2011 campaign as the defensive coordinator at Lawrence Academy. He has also made coaching stops with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League, the University of New Hampshire, Boston College, Columbia University and Wesleyan University. During Madden’s time at Boston College as a graduate assistant the Eagles won back-to-back ACC Atlantic Division crowns.

A 1999 graduate of Wesleyan, Madden played four seasons as a defensive back.
