Game Report/Vlaz Report on Southwest Guilford-Glenn boys tonight with ‘Birthday Boy’ Ben coming up BIG

Southwest Guilford – 83
Glenn – 75

For the second straight week the Cowboys set to play a game without practicing for 3 days. The weather and school cancellations and delays has been havoc to the schedule for all teams. Tonight the Cowboys played hosts to the Bobcats of conference rival Glenn High School. Despite WSFC Schools being closed the game was still on. The Cowboys were able to pull out an 81-66 victory a couple weeks ago in the first matchup, but how would not practicing and also being on a 2 game slide effect Southwest?

The game opened up with a pair of empty trips by both teams, and then Southwest only managed to hit 1 freebie on their third possession to get the scoring started. Some more ugly basketball, and then a basket and Southwest was up 3-0. Glenn responded with a 5-0 run to take a 5-3 lead. Southwest scored 4 quick points to reclaim the lead at 7-5. The quarter was back and forth, but the Cowboys closed with a basket to take a 12-9 lead as the quarter closed.

The second frame opened with the teams trading baskets for the first couple of trips, but then the Cowboys seized control with little spurts and then a 12-0 spurt made it 32-17 at the 4:40 mark. Southwest seemed to have the momentum and it was 42-23, but then the Bobcats quickly fought back and closed the half with an 8-0 run to get the game back to 42-31 headed into the break.

The second half was a mirror of the first half with the Cowboys taking control and pushing the lead out to 16, and then the ever scrappy Bobcats clawing back. At the close of the third it was 62-52.

The fourth quarter was a dog fight as Glenn would not give up and fought back all the way to 72-67 at the 3:01 mark. In the end however, Southwest managed to score plenty of free-throws to pull out a hard fought 83-75 victory to end a 2 game skid.

Southwest was led by the birthday boy Ben Ferguson with 22, 5 Reb, 5 Stl, Andrew Bullock with 10, 2 Stl, 2 Reb, and Rick Mack with 10, 4 Ast, 2 Stl, and 2 Blks.
