College Baseball Final – Piedmont 4, Guilford 2

DEMOREST, Ga. – Wes Skidmore had two hits and two RBI in Piedmont College’s 4-2 baseball win over visiting Guilford College Saturday in both teams’ season opener.

Jacob Brewster, the Lions’ fourth and final pitcher, recorded a save by striking out the side in the ninth inning. Guilford had the game-tying runs on base when the final out was recorded.

After Nathan Fulbright’s RBI double in the first gave the Quakers a 1-0 first-inning lead, Skidmore tied the game with a one-out, RBI double in the third. He scored Piedmont’s third run on Breck Davidson’s fifth-inning squeeze bunt and later delivered a two-out, RBI single in the sixth.

The Quakers made it a 4-2 game when Fulbright scored an unearned run off a ball hit by Corey Wallace.

Griffin Olson and Evan Gresham both had two hits in support of winning pitcher Chris Goershel, who fanned four in five innings.

Fulbright’s two hits paced Guilford’s offense, which had five hits overall. Borja Jones-Berasaluce took the loss despite four strikeouts in as many innings.
