Elon Basketball to Host Pink Weekend

ELON, N.C. – The Elon men’s and women’s basketball team is hosting a Pink Weekend in its doubleheader against Georgia Southern Saturday, Feb. 8. The women’s tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. followed by the men’s tip at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym. Both games will be broadcasted on ESPN3.

All fans are encouraged to wear pink to Saturday’s games. Free pink logo Elon shirts will be given away to students at the women’s game.

Elon women’s basketball’s annual Play 4Kay game will be part of the Pink Weekend. Play 4Kay is an initiative that allows a nation of coaches to raise awareness and funds for cancer research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

The official charity is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The late Kay Yow ‘75, former Eon and NC State head women’s basketball coach, served as the catalyst for Play 4Kay after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away on Jan. 24, 2009. The cause is especially close to the Phoenix as Yow was the first head coach of the women’s basketball program, as well as the volleyball program, and served in that role for four years.

Fans can visit Elon’s Play 4Kay page here and donate to Play 4Kay on behalf of the maroon and gold. Representatives from the Play 4Kay organization will be set up in the concourse outside Alumni Gym on Saturday with information and to accept donations.
