High School Basketball:East Forsyth boys over Northwest Guilford in a nail-biter at the Roger Nelson Gym/NWG girls roll

Boys
Final:
East Forsyth 75
Northwest Guilford 74

Larry Curry with 36 points for East Forsyth to lead all scorers….NWG up by 9 in the 3rd Quarter and then East went on a 12-0 run to go up by 3…Late in the game, Hampton Billups at the line for NWG and he goes 1-2, makes the first and misses the second free throw….NWG fouls Curry he is at the line for one-and-one and he misses the shot with 3.8 seconds remaining…NWG gets the rebound and they call timeout falling down with the ball with no just one second left in the game….Excellent baseball pass by Colson Everett all the way up the floor, throwing high in the air, the length of the court…Hampton Billups goes up and makes the catch of the ball….Again, an excellent pass up court and it gave the Vikings time to get off a shot on the catch and shoot, but Northwest couldn’t get the play to go down….Nice play and good execution by NWG and it was hard to believe that they could pull off that play, but they did, but couldn’t get the shot they were looking for…Pass again was very good…..It was just hard to put that shot together at the end in the nick of time…Very good execution and NWG just didn’t get the break they needed at the end….One of the better games that you will see this season….Well played game and well coached game on both ends, by both teams…They had a true late-round playoff atmosphere going down in the Roger Nelson Gymanasium on the Northwest Guilford campus tonight…..Hard-played game and well-played game by both teams….Player of the Game for East Forsyth was Larry Curry, who hit for 36 points and he also eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career tonight…Player of the Game for Northwest Guilford was Colson Everett with 22 points and he was on fire from outside the three-point line in this game…There was a stretch where he couldn’t miss and might have hit 6 in a-row….

Also for NWG you had Jalen Spicer and Kevin Henry with 13 points each, Nick Powell had 10, Jalen Gore and Hampton Billups had 6 a-piece for Northwest, while Reggie Davis hit for 3 and Nick Yocum had one point for the Vikings….Scoring numbers coming in from the East Forsyth book at the scorer’s table after the game….

Also for East you had Childress with 12, Riley Larue had 8, Madison Cone and Nester had 6 each, while Drew Cone hit for 5 and Royal had two….Again, point totals from East Forsyth book, from after the game….

Should put NWG at (16-3) and East at (18-1) on the year and East has not yet lost a game in the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference….NWG has dropped two PTC games….One to East and the other at Ragsdale….

End 3rd Quarter:
NWG 59
East 55

Halftime:
NWG 35
East 34

1st Q:
NWG 19
East 13

Final:
Northwest Guilford 61
East Forsyth 17

Catherine Moore led the Lady Vikings with 21 points and she was hitting baskets from all over the place tonight….Fellow-sophomore Toni Tucker had 14 points for NWG, Morgan Pointer added 10, Hayley Barber pumped in 7, Hunter Newman added 4, Savannah Neas 4 and Leah Wallace posted two points for Northwest….A very solid team effort tonight by Coach Darlene Joyner’s Vikings…..NWG should be in a solid spot at second in the conference right now with Southwest Guilford still the team to beat in the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference….

Halftime:
Northwest Guilford 37
East Forsyth 10

  1. Lots of coaches there watching that game tonight and there are lots of fans that would love to see that Page-EF game take place…..Sure that NWG is ready for a rematch too….

  2. Wes, not sure where that 2 came from on East’ loss record…..Must have been studying it too long…

    Thanks
