HPU Women’s Track and Field Panthers Successful At HPU Team Challenge On Thursday

The High Point University women’s track & field team posted the top score against four out of five opponents on Thursday night at the High Point University Challenge in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Panthers defeated Davidson, Elon, Furman, North Carolina A&T and North Carolina State in the dual meet competition.

Thursday’s dual meet marked the first team scored competition in HPU Div. I regular-season history. The Panthers defeated Davidson, Furman, North Carolina A&T and North Carolina State in the competition while the team was edged out by Elon 65-47. HPU topped NC State 53-47 while the Panthers outscored Furman 76-21, Davidson 74-22 and North Carolina A&T 58-42.

On the track, the 4×400-meter race team of Emily De Lena, Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick, Lilla Lorand and Emily Fischer won the event with a time of 4:03.98. Lorand was also a part of the DMR team that ran a time of 12:27.01 to win that event as well. Katie Farina, Cozette Collin and Natalia Ocasio were also members of the winning DMR team.

The Panthers continued their success in the field events where Alyssa Palenchar cleared 3.51 meters (11-6.25) to win the pole vault competition. Meanwhile, Alexis Fernandez posted a team season-best distance of 5.28 meters (17-4) in the long jump.

HPU will return Winston-Salem, N.C. next weekend to compete at the JDL UCS Invitational. The two-day meet will begin on Friday.
