St. Pius Comets Girl’s Basketball finishes regular season Unbeaten and the team is now riding a 60-game winning streak:This team has shined under Shelton

St.Pius Girls Basketball/8th Grade Comets Team

The St. Pius X varsity girls finished the regular season today. Kristin Shelton’s team has accomplished 60 consecutive wins over the past two seasons. Coach Shelton is very fortunate to have so many girls who love basketball, and has a special talent for getting them to do what she wants them to do; no easy feat. It was a bittersweet day, beating the well-coached cross-town rivals and friends from Our Lady of Grace, and the 8th graders final game in the Connolly Athletic Center. The local Catholic School tournament, PECSAA, is next weekend and Shamrock, featuring Catholic Schools from several southeastern states follows.

The team has 17 girls, 9 of whom are 8th graders. Seven plan to tryout for basketball next year, one at Bishop McGuinness, one at Greensboro Day, four at Page, and one not sure which high school.

The parents that are moving on will miss the camaraderie and conviviality of Saturdays from 9:30 to 3. The girls will always remember this part of their childhood and the benefits of playing a team sport will be with them forever.

  1. Congrats to the St.Pius girls and Coach Shelton. That’s an amazing record.
Final game of the public school Big 5 Conference is at Kernodle today at 4:45. Northern Guilford MS is undefeated and going for 2nd straight title. I believe Kernodle’s only lose came at NGMS in a close game. Should be a good one.
