College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 59, Va. Wesleyan 46

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Kayla Adams paced three Quakers in double-figure scoring with 14 points in Guilford College’s 59-46 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win at Virginia Wesleyan College.

The victory avenged a home loss to the Marlins (13-8, 7-5 ODAC) last month and moved the Quakers (16-5, 8-4 ODAC) past Virginia Wesleyan into fourth place in the league standings. The Marlins played without leading scorer Brittany Glasco, who missed her third straight game due to a concussion.

Guilford led by 14 with 11:22 left in regulation, but Virginia Wesleyan drew to within 47-41 with 6:57 remaining. The Quakers finished the game on a 12-5 run and held its opponent to under 50 points for the 11th time this year. Adams made five of six free throws and the Marlins missed all seven shots from the floor in the final 5:25.

Guilford’s Gabby Oglesby had 11 points and 10 rebounds for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season, plus two blocks. Brittany Drew chipped in with 11 points and Morgan King added eight points and 10 rebounds. Logan Hardin picked up 10 boards and four points off the bench. The Quakers held a 54-39 rebounding edge and had 18 offensive boards that led to nine second-chance points.

Alexis Platt had 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench to lead Virginia Wesleyan. Teammate Crystal Strother added 11 points. The Marlins shot just three of 23 from three-point range and turned the ball over 16 times.

Guilford hosts Emory & Henry College Wednesday (2/12) in a 7:00 p.m. ODAC game.
