HPU’s Bigelow Named Big South Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player Of The Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Patricia Bigelow of the High Point University women’s lacrosse team has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Bigelow paced the Panthers’ defense, which held American to just one goal in the second half of Saturday’s 11-6 win. The defensive effort enabled HPU to break a 5-5 halftime tie and pull away from the Eagles during the second period.

The defender forced two turnovers and grabbed two ground balls in High Point’s season-opening win. Bigelow also tallied a team-high three draw controls.

This is the first Big South weekly honor of Bigelow’s career. Last season, Bigelow played in all 19 games for the Panthers including 18 starts. She ranked second on the team a year ago with 17 caused turnovers to go along with 25 ground balls.

High Point will travel to Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday to take on the University of Florida at 1 p.m. The game marks the first of a four-game road swing for the Panthers.
