  1. Great boys game. I think HPCA’s biggest lead was probably 3 and GDS was up 6 several times and maybe 8 at one point. Joey McLean went over 1,000 points for his career at HPCA.

It was tight down to the wire. I think it was tied at 55; GDS went up 57-55. Tied at 57, GDS went up 59-57. HPCA called time out with 20 seconds left and spread the floor for McLean. He got off a good look at about a 14 footer, but it rimmed out. GDS hit 2 free throws with 1.7 seconds left to go up by 4. McLean hit a long 3 at the buzzer for the final score.

Great energy & effort by both teams. HPCA missed 9 free throws in the first half and was only marginally better in the 2nd. That killed them. They hit more 3s. GDS big guy – #42 – was tough, especially in the 2nd half and down the stretch. Great game.

We are blessed to have the 3 best teams in the 3A league in the state right here in the Piedmont.

  2. Easy to get 1,000 points at that school when you are a 4 year starter and play 35 games a year. Thats 140 games in 4 years. Thats more then JJ redick played at Duke…..

  3. jj redick played 139 games in college at duke making deep ncaa tournament runs every year. GDS sure is lucky

  4. Don’t listen to easy. This girl can play and she really distributes the ball well. She has had a very good high school career and hopefully she will have continued success in college.

  5. Never said she couldnt play. Public schools play 25 games max a year. GDS has already played 29 going on 30 tonight. With playoffs coming up. they get 40 more games in a career then public school therefore its easier to score 1000 points. Not knocking Caroline Spurr at all. Ive seen her play in the timco, shes a solid player. Just saying 1,000 points isnt what it was back in the 90s or 2000s.

  6. @ easy.. Let me say up front I am not her dad, trainer or even close friend but you “sir” are an idiot! This is a kid that played on the only undefeated team to ever play at Kernodle. She has been a 4 year starter at GDS on teams only losing 11, 6, 5 and currently 2 games the entire year out of those 30-35 games per year. She may not be the type of player that demands a double team but I can assure you there isn’t a team in this state that would not put one of their better guards on her the entire game. While at GDS she has been the PG for teams featuring an average of 2 players per year graduating with offers from colleges in basketball (nearly 10 college basketball players during her time in this position). Few players in this area could play with and against this type of competition and get their 1000 pts and remain a solid producing guard. This young lady will run through a wall for her coach and her teammates. We should be in the business of uplifting kids in their moment of achieving. Great Job Spurr because you earned it !
